"A billion people are not receiving the nutrients they need. Depending on what statistics you choose to read, between 20 and 36 million people die each year from starvation. We are part of an illogical system that allows this. I am a PhD student, a scientist, and I must have an (albeit part-time) job to give me food, water, clothes and a place to sleep. This keeps me from my potentially world-changing research. I would do what I do, even if there was no monetary 'incentive'. Working 5 days in every 7, so that we may have 2 days free doesn't sound like a very good deal to me. All anyone wants is the freedom to pursue happiness"
