"While this concept may smack of communism, there are two major differences. Firstly communism uses money to sustain opulent living conditions for the select few that determine the distribution of goods. This would not. The ruling class would be brought into the same realm as the rest of us. The second is without money, the military industrial complex becomes obsolete, and therefore no longer a drain on every aspect of the economy (except the ruling class, who benefit greatly) and free up resources that would be far better spent in research and space exploration. In short, it would bring us two steps closer to Gene Roddenberry's vision of a free and equitable world free of unnecessarily polluting industry, poverty and war."
